In the past I have worked at Oslo University (Norway), Durham University (UK), Aarhus University (Denmark) and Microsoft Research in Cambridge (USA).

My research focuses on the hows and whys of people's social media practices, with a particular emphasis on wellbeing, visuality, sexuality and governance. The overarching questions I tend to ask are about identity, community, norms and power. Beyond trying to make sense of what people are doing on and with the social media, how, and why, I am always thinking, often teaching and sometimes publishing on research methods and digital research ethics. 

I am starting an international research project on misogyny in everyday visual communication,  leading the Participatory Wellbeing Research Group of the Estonian Center of Excellence of Well-Being Sciences, working on a project on health meaning making on social media, and wrapping up an international research project on visual digital trust.
